Horrorshow are an a Inner West Sydney hip hop duo, comprising of Solo (Vocals) and Adit (Producer). Both their music and personas have won the love of fans and critics alike, and with three studio albums under their belts, sold-out tours, ARIA award nominations and shortlisting for the Australian Music Prize (AMP), anticipation for the next chapter builds.
Emerging on the scene in 2008 with The Grey Space, an album created while the duo was still in high school, Horrorshow introduced themselves as a force to be reckoned with. The critically acclaimed album, quickly turned heads with an ARIA award nomination and tours with The Herd, Muph & Plutonic and Hermitude – all before either of them turned 21.
Their momentum continued not long after their debut, with the release of Inside Story in 2009, solidifying their reputation for eloquent lyricism and soulful production. From here, it became clear that they were not perceived as a passing style or sub-cultural fad, indeed their honesty and musical ingenuity proved to be the drawcard for a fast growing legion of loyal and passionate fans. Testing the waters internationally in 2010, they supported Brother Ali and Urthboy in Germany and Hilltop Hoods in London, with a phenomenal response.
2011 saw them cement their place amongst the festival favourites playing to over 50,000 people on the Groovin’ The Moo Festival and Bliss n Eso’s Running on Air Tour. In 2012, they supported Hilltop Hoods for a second time on their Speaking In Tongues Tour performing to massive crowds across Europe and Australia. They rounded out the year by playing a special acoustic show at the world-famous Spielgeltent at Brisbane Festival and collaborated alongside label-mates for the acclaimed Dr Seuss Meets Elefant Traks at Sydney’s Opera House.
Horrorshow premiered new single, Unfair Lottery in May 2013. It was hailed by critics for being “close to an instant classic—thoughtful, soulful, catchy” (Matt Shea, The Vine). The accompanying single launches in Sydney and Melbourne sold-out in under a week. Their much anticipated third album King Amongst Many was released on August 2nd and stormed to #2 on the ARIA Album Chart, #1 on the iTunes album chart. It was the highest placed local release and highest ever debut for Elefant Traks.
The record was ‘Album Of The Week’ on national broadcaster Triple j, Sydney’s FBi Radio and Melbourne’s PBS-FM, it was shortlisted the prestigious Australian Music Prize, nominated for an ARIA Award and J Award. Horrorshow’s King Amongst Many Tour saw them play to sold-out audiences across the country. They also joined Bliss n Eso on their Circus In The Sky Tour in April 2014 playing to approximately 50,000 people.
In the middle of 2014, Horrorshow was part of a new release under the banner of One Day (the crew that includes Spit Syndicate, Jackie Onassis and Joyride). The album, Mainline, debuted at #2 on the ARIA Chart, and the crew toured nationally, playing huge venues including the iconic Enmore Theatre in Sydney, as well as festivals such as Field Day, Groovin’ the Moo and Maroochy Arts and Music Festival. Their charisma as a collective won over audiences everywhere, and the success of their block party One Day Sundays was felt nationwide.
In between busy schedules, Horrorshow found time in early 2015 to put together an extremely special and raw acoustic performance for their fans. The ‘Listen Close Tour’ saw the duo play sold-out intimate shows around the country and was described by The Music as “a rare and beautiful thing”. A series of these performances were packaged up in a limited edition, hand-numbered album bundle, representative of Horrorshow’s dedication to their fans loyalty.
With the rest of the year scheduled cleared for writing, new music from this prolific duo is not far away, with 2016 looking to be another incredible year.
