The Tongue is one of Australia's most promising young hip hop artists - a rare talent excelling in both battling and freestyling, as well as the recorded and live arenas.
In 2005 it was the
Revolver Battle (only NSW MC to ever win) as well as representing Australia in the
Battle4Supremacy MC Battle.
2006 saw The Tongue sign with the Elefant Traks label, who subsequently released his
Bad Education EP. The EP was widely acclaimed featuring
Bad Education and
The Punch (one of Triple J's most played songs for the calendar year). Vinly copies of the EP sold out within a month and it was voted
EP of the Year on Australia's biggest hip hop website ozhiphop.com
By 2007 The Tongue emerged as one of Australia's most exciting new artists, playing shows with The Herd and De La Soul. September saw the release of his debut album
Shock And Awe. It received a swag of rave reviews and led to two more big singles - the energetic
Real Thing and the bouncy cartoon madness of
Animal Crackers feat Dudley Perkins. Shortly after came the soldout national
Three Strikes Tour with Urthboy and Hermitude.
After racking up an impressive list of guest collaborations (appearing with
Urthboy, Katalyst and
Bias B) Tongue earned himself a spot at both
The Big Day Out and
Good Vibrations festivals. With the goal of creating an original mixtape, The Tongue put together the brilliant
Redux Mixtape. Released in June 2008 'Redux' helped solidify Tongues reputation as one of the most exciting MCs in the country, with yet another national tour getting underway.
2009 will see the release of The Tongues second full length album through Elefant Traks.
